The Personal Responsibilities of a Prophet
  • You must understand that character a and charisma go hand in hand. Character is the foundation on which charisma must rest.
  • You must be obedient. You don't have to cook-up a prophetic word. Act according to the Spirit. If God doesn't speak, you don't speak.

Your responsibility isn't to give a prophecy to everyone who needs a word, but to speak the mind of God. Speak as God leads.
  • Guard the anointing. God gives the anointing but you must guard it. After ministering, stay away from the carnal. After experiencing the presence of God, stay away from the carnal.

The anointing attracts people to you. Some are seeking it and some are seeking to get at it. The anointing attracts good and it attracts evil. Both can become a distraction if you don't use wisdom. Send them all to God.

Watch the company you keep. get linked with persons of like spirits, who speak the language you do. The prophetic anointing turns you into an eagle. Eagles don't hang out with small birds. Mary sought out Elizabeth when she birthed the Word within her. Every Mary needs an Elizabeth.
  • Don't grow proud but operate in humility. When you begin to make headway, don't let your head get in the way. Count it a privilege to be chosen by God.
  • Do not attach a price to your ministry. In the same token, be open to receive the monetary gifts people may give you in gratitude.
  • You must maintain a hunger for God's presence. A true prophet must be a worshiper in spirit and in truth. You must meditate on God's word. if you express faithfulness for His written word, He will trust you with His revealed word. Look out for complacency and cockiness. This creates a know-it-all attitude and can elude you into believing that you don't need God anymore.
  • You must be attached to a local church. Submit to the leader of that church. He or she has the final word on your actions. If you have a word, and he or she doesn't release you to speak it, don't be angry. If you cannot flow with your leader, seek dialogue. Seek conversation first and leave if that fails.
  • Seek to be mentored. A prophet can find you and ask to mentor you or you can seek a prophet and ask to be mentored. The ideal situation is where your pastor, to whom you are already committed, is a prophet.

The rationale for mentorship is that iron sharpens iron. During the mentoring process, observe the mentor (prophet). You must also evaluate what you have seen. During the mentoring process you must discriminate. Characterize what you see. You must decide what about him or her you want to emulate. Elisha used this process during his mentorship form Elijah, no doubt. Afterwards, he asked for a double-portion of Elijah's gift. You should seek to have the same spirit as the mentor, under the control of the Holy Spirit. The ultimate goal is to get to know the God of your mentor

Seek to serve PERIOD. You sow into your blessing when you serve others instead of yourself. The atmosphere of service is the most conducive to the anointing. Elisha served Elijah and ended up with a double-portion of his anointing.
